Green Street Early Learning Centre normalising Smokefree cars and homes messages

The teachers at Green Street Early Learning Centre recently participated in a Little Lungs-Pūkahukahu Iti workshop. Concerned about how whānau might react to the message they decided to normalise and embed the messages into their everyday environment by;

  • displaying their Little Lungs Certificates prominently in the centre;
  • posting and sharing Smokefree information on their Facebook page;
  • updating their Smokefree signage;
  • implementing a Smokefree policy to the same standard as required for schools (with criteria for signage, and parent field trips included);
  • ensuring documentation for new staff and teaching students highlights the Smokefree policy;
  • providing Smokefree cars and homes pamphlets in enrolment packs;
  • asking the Little Lungs team for Smokefree articles for their monthly newsletters;,
  • sharing facts about second-hand Smoke in their monthly newsletters; and,
  • promoting Smokefree initiatives, such as World Smokefree Day and Stoptober through displays.
